| CompactRIO provides a rugged, flexible, intelligent embedded system for a variety of in-vehicle acquisition and control applications such as data logging, noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) testing, rapid control prototyping and for a variety of vehicles such as automotive, military, aerospace, railroad and more. Pilgrim Technology enhanced interface designs are vehicle specific and allow for unique diagnostics to varying vehicle types such as HEMTT, HMWVV and FMTV military vehicles.
The system weighs less than nine pounds, can be configured with to up to 64 analog input channels and operates on less than 24 watts. The cRIO can be configured with two cRIO-9211 thermocouple modules, a cRIO-9421 digital input module, a cRIO-9472 digital output module and four cRIO-9201 analog input modules. With the Pilgrim Technology Wireless Module this solution can be completely mobile and embedded in multiple vehicle types. Additionally connection to varying types of vehicle data buses are also supported. Pilgrim Technology has developed a unique power interface to fit specific vehicle types. With the wireless connection, we can interpret the data in real time, which greatly simplifies the data analysis process and provides for real-time and stored data processing. Pilgrim Technology works with many sensors to measure acceleration, wheel speed, air temperature, fuel temperature, tire temperature, pressure, throttle position, brake position, steering position, and suspension displacement, oil condition analysis, fuel level, air flow and advanced acoustic sensors which provide an instant engine condition analysis.
Accurate Temperature Measurements
Tire temperature significantly impacts traction, and tire wear. With three infra-red temperature sensors mounted to a cantilevered bracket on the front of each tire accuracy of temperature measurement is increased. As the tires warm up, their ability to grip increases until they reach their peak performance, after which an increase in temperature reduces the tires’ ability to grip. With the 24-bit accuracy of the cRIO-9211 thermocouple couple card, we can detect even the slightest increase in temperature. Our testing process consists of three stages:
| |
1) |
Initially we adjust the static camber of suspension and the tire pressure until the tires heat evenly across the tread. |
| 2) |
Coupled with a lateral accelerometer, LabVIEW helps us plot the coefficient of friction as a function of temperature. This information determines the temperature at which the tire grip peaks. |
| 3) |
Finally, we experiment with suspension settings (toe and camber) to closely maintain the peak temperature. |

Fortress
The AirFortress combines the three key aspects of
security – privacy, authentication and access control – into a single
offering that has been designed from the ground up for use in wireless
networks. By providing the level of security only afforded by
implementing security at the MAC (Media Access Control) layer, Fortress
hides not only data, but also network information such as IP addresses
and broadcast messages. This eliminates exposure to analytical hacks,
mitigates against certain types of denial–of–service attacks and ensures
maximum availability for your mission–critical applications. Leveraging
Fortress Technologies' years of experience in developing secure network
solutions for the U.S. Government and other sensitive application
environments, the AirFortress solution offers the unequaled capability
of three levels of authentication – by network, device, and user – as
well as robust encryption methods strong enough for the most demanding
mission critical environments.
Cisco
Cisco Systems, Inc. is the worldwide leader in networking
for the Internet. Today, networks are an essential part of business,
education, government and home communications, and Cisco Internet
Protocol-based (IP) networking solutions are the foundation of these
networks. Cisco hardware, software, and service offerings are used to
create Internet solutions that allow individuals, companies, and
countries to increase productivity, improve customer satisfaction, and
strengthen competitive advantage. The Cisco name has become synonymous
with the Internet, as well as with the productivity improvements that
Internet business solutions provide. At Cisco, our vision is to change
the way people work, live, play, and learn. |
